i dunno. not the most illogical thing i've seen. If someone messes up their email address in that field, they're pretty screwed. The expo has no way to contact that person, and that user has no way to recover.

it's all a question of how much you want to prevent people from messing up.

we have no confirmation email at all on posterous registration and some people do mess up entering their email address

maybe they had a bunch of people screw up in the past (and tech people tend to copy and paste more).

i *never* type in the email 2 times. Either my browser autofills 2 times, or i copy from one field into the other. In which case, i better not have messed up!

Unbelievable.
It's a challenging UX design problem. My favorite kind. I don't think paste blocking is the way to go but it's true people will inevitably mess up a vital piece of communication and connection data with you.

We dropped the reverify email and password from Widgetbox a year or so ago. While I'm sure people get it wrong, I think having a simple, to the point, sign up form wins over the few who might mess up. Plus since many people just copy paste, what's the point of having it anyways?

My only idea is to slow down the user for just a sec. Give them a UX speed bump. Perhaps make them enter it in two halves: ____ @ _____

This screws up autofill and many of the set conventions out there today but it's and idea.

If you entered your email wrong the first time, this will prevent entering the wrong email again. I think that was their logic.
